    in the "minor" categories - folk music, world music, jazz and its subcategories, classical, etc. Looking forward to seeing all the nominess, and who were the winners, in categories like those.

    awards had been phased out. But googling reveals the awards are made b/4 the TV broadcast, not on camera.

    children you were married at the Grammys...that was quite a moment.

    was for entrance into the Grammy Hall of Fame for the great jazz pianist and teacher Lennie Tristano. The album mentioned, "Crosscurrents" on Capitol records present the first examples of a group of musicians performing what became known as "free jazz".

    Lennie Tristano's titles, "Intuition" and "Digression" were recorded in 1949 - and were the first to offer a group of musicians improvising together without a preset melody or sequence of harmonic progression.

    And, most importantly, they are beautiful.

    He had not been given credit for this innovation until recently - kudos and lots of money directed instead to the likes of Ornette Coleman whose (imo) chaotic version of this art form wasn't presented until 10 years later.

    So it is with great art.
    It took 100 years for Bach to come to public awareness.
    It has taken about 60 some odd years to begin to set the record straight concerning the brilliance and beauty of the work of Lennie Tristano.

    There are other selections on this recording as well, and I recommend it highly to anyone interested in beautiful and original music. It is something you would not have heard before.

    I listen to, or want to with few exceptions.

    Last night I was listening to David Alvin, Boz Scaggs, and Toto IV.

    They are the back up band on the song "We are the World", which included singers like Michael Jackson(+4 siblings), Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Smokey Robinson, Bob Dylan, and for some insane reason, Dan Aykroyd.

    I believe only one member of Toto (David Paich) was part of the backup band for We Are The World.
